Are you in town for a short visit?
May you find the information in this blog useful.
It has been a challenge for the past one year and a half, finding suitable and safe places for the Big Bro and LiL Bro, and now Baby Sis to have free play. Since we are still renting our current home, we are hesitant to build our own playground or playhouse. Living in a compound with minimal play area and a street with cars passing by above the speed limit makes it necessary for more supervision when letting our kids play in the neighborhood. We really should put some signs in front of our house saying, "Hati-Hati Banyak Anak!" meaning, Be Careful there are Many Children trying to play here because there is not enough play area in our houses!
Apparently the house doesn't have a tree for us to make our own swing. Back in the States and in Qatar, we had many FREE playgrounds with complete natural surroundings, no rust, no loud music and no street vendors. We truly miss that and hope to find similar places here in Jogja.
Apart from the natural places, Jogja as we knew before moving abroad, need more public spaces for their young children to play without having to belong in an institution (school playground) or to buy unhealthy food and listen to unhealthy music (supermarket and fast food restaurant playgrounds). Those are the only two places I can think of where high quality playgrounds are found. In the meantime, we keep exploring the city.
All the places we have visited, I try to keep record here on my Archives. Maybe we have not found all the places yet. Please do let us know if you are aware of other nice, safe and clean playgrounds for kids. We'd be happy to visit.
May you have a meaningful time in Jogja with your family!
